LaTonya Boyd Obituary

The Life Legacy of Overseer LaTonya Wylie Boyd

Overseer LaTonya W. Boyd, a native of Chester, South Carolina, was a woman of unwavering faith and love. She passed away unexpectedly on November 2, 2023, at Piedmont Medical Center in Fort Mill, SC. Born on April 15, 1969, she was the daughter of the late Kevin Eugene Grier and the late Marvin Beatrice Grier.

Overseer LaTonya W. Boyd was a remarkable individual who believed in the power of family and the unconditional love of a mother. She enjoyed the blessing of loving and nurturing her children, Brandi C. Boyd, Reginald M. Boyd, Jr., and Beatrice C. Boyd, whom she adored. She had an unbreakable bond with her daughter, Brandi, who preceded her in transitioning to eternal life. As she received her wings, LaTonya was joyously reunited with Brandi in the heavens. Their spirits now rejoice, praising God for eternity. LaTonya's unmatched faith and fervor for the Word of God prepared her for this divine meeting.

She was a 1987 graduate of Chester High School. She attended Winthrop University and in 2010 earned her associate degree in Early Childhood Education from Montreat College. LaTonyadedicated her life to making a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly through education. Her passion for education was lived out in her employment as a Substitute and Adult Education Teacher in the Chester County School District, Executive Director with Carolina Community Action (Head Start), and as Executive Director of S.C. First Steps Program, Chester, SC. Her passion lay in nurturing and educating the young, bright minds of children in their early childhood years. She firmly believed that education was a gateway to a brighter future for every child. LaTonya not only embraced motherhood for her own children but also extended her love and care to countless others. Her nurturing spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an everlasting imprint on their hearts.

In her life’s journey and in serving over 22 years in the Gospel ministry, Overseer Boyd was guided by her deep-rooted faith in God. She accepted her call into the Gospel ministry and preached her initial sermon under the leadership of Rev. W.W. Thompson at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Chester, South Carolina. Overseer Boyd later joined Gethsemane Church under the leadership of Archbishop B.R. Wilson where she was ordained Elder and served faithfully in varying ministry roles. As the Lord elevated Overseer Boyd, she was called by Bishop Ronnie Duncan to serve as the Executive Pastor of The Garden of Shalom in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

She leaves to cherish her loving legacy, her devoted and lovingchildren: Reginald M. Boyd, Jr., Fort Mill, SC and Beatrice C.
