Mr. William Lawrence Rucker of 2188 Hough Road in Lancaster, South Carolina died on Sunday, February 7, 2016 in San Francisco, CA.

Funeral Service will be held 12 Noon Saturday, February 13, 2016 at A. R. Rucker Middle School 422 Old Dixie Road in Lancaster, South Carolina with Bishop Herbert C. Crump, Jr., Officiating, Reverend Dr. Victor Wilson, Presiding, and assisted by Reverend Kenneth Cauthen and Reverend Lloyd Reid. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Memorial Park.

Viewing will be 7:00 – 9:00pm Friday, February 12, 2016 at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church 317 East Barr Street Lancaster, South Carolina.

William Lawrence was born November 11, 1971 in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of Ruby King Rucker and Dr. Douglas Aaron Rucker. William attended public schools in Lancaster, South Carolina. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1990.  After high school, William started his college career at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina and then attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. William eventually found his passion for Mortuary Science and graduated with a degree from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Services in Atlanta, Georgia in 1995. William was a third generation licensed mortician. After graduation, William returned home to Lancaster and opened Rucker Cars and Rucker Bail Bonding. He worked until his passing at Rucker Bail Bonding.

William was married to the love of his life, Daffney Cauthen, in 2002.  William was a devoted husband to Daffney and a loving father to their children, Layla Ellen and Aaron Ganson. William and Daffney resided in Lancaster until he entered into his eternal rest on February 7th, 2016. William’s grandparents, Aaron and Ruth Rucker of Lancaster, South Carolina and William and Ellen King of Chester, South Carolina, preceded him in death. William at an early age accepted Christ as his personal savior and joined Mt. Zion AME Zion Church and continued his church life there until parting us.

William entered eternal rest on a beautiful Sunday morning, February 7th, 2016, at Super Bowl #50 in San Francisco at the Marina Green Park, by the water, surrounded by his loved ones.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Daffney and children Layla and Aaron. His mother, Ruby King Rucker and father, Douglas Aaron Rucker.  His mother-in-law, Patsy Cauthen and father-in-law, Thomas Cauthen. His siblings, Douglas Aaron Rucker, Jr., Aaron Riley Rucker, Patricia Rucker-McCray, Ruby Rucker Cooper (Ford), Carlton Douglas Rucker (Lori), Ellen Rucker Sellers (Bakari), and Ione Rucker Jamison. He leaves his adopted brother, Columbus “Chris” Parker (Jackie). His sister-in-law, Angie Truesdale (Gary) and brother-in-law, Mark Cauthen (Bonita).  A host of nieces and nephews: Brandon, Skyla, Autumn, Shaniya, Christina, Journey, Ford Jr., Lake,  Riley, Sean, Douglas, Siarra, Kai, Kathryn, Keenan, William, Antwan Jr., Gavin, Rucker, Lil’ C, and Elle Carole. He leaves his god daughter, Journey Catoe. His Great Aunt: Gladys Rucker Mattison. His aunts and uncles: Margaret Rucker Sheftall (Jackson), Patricia Rucker Pangburn (Kenneth), Andrew P. Corley, Robbie King Jones (Howard), Ellen King Ferguson, Patricia E. King, Margie Buckson King, Joyce Davis King, Louis James, and a host of cousins and relatives.

Family will receive friends at the of his parents Dr. & Mrs. Douglas Aaron Rucker 618 Hilldale Drive Lancaster, SC and Mr. & Mrs Thomas Cauthen 119 Elder Street Heath Springs, SC.
