Helen Ruth (Gibson) Hughes

Helen Ruth Gibson Hughes, 81 of Charlotte passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2016. Her strong faith in GOD and family helped her battle her illness over the past few years. Helen Ruth was born October 13, 1934 in Union, SC to the late Ralph Gibson and late Viola Abernathy Gibson. After attending Union County Public schools, she met and married Louis Hughes of Chester, SC. They moved to Buffalo, NY and to that union reared four children.
Helen Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who worked in the retail industry until her retirement. She relocated to Charlotte NC with her adult children in early 2006.
Helen Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Louis Hughes, her sister Juanita Gibson Hughes and brother Robert Gist. She is survived by her children, Jonathan Ralph, Lisa Lynn (Michael), Janet Womack (Tony) and Helen Heidi, grandchildren Jessica Womack and Alsander Womack.
Funeral services will be conducted at Zion Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 3030 Pinckney Road, Chester, SC on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 2:00 PM. A visitation at the church from 12:00 – 1:45 PM will be held prior to the funeral service. No processional services will occur. Church Pastor Donnie Dye will officiate and Pastor Charles Jennings, Jr., formerly of Promiseland Missionary Baptist Church, Buffalo NY will eulogize.
