Ms. Caldwell a native of Chester, South Carolina passed September 4, 2023 at Atrium (Main) Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Family will receive friends at her home 105 Courtland Street in Chester, South Carolina. Please wear a MASK if visiting the family. Funeral arrangements are listed below.
Ms. Christine Caldwell, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 4, 2023, at the age of 80. Born on July 2, 1943, in Chester County, Christine was a cherished member of her community and touched the lives of all who knew her.
Christine attended Chester County Schools and dedicated her career to serving others. She worked tirelessly at both the Chester County Hospital and the Chester County School District, where she made a significant impact on the lives of many. Her dedication and passion for her work were evident to all who crossed her path.
From a young age, Christine embraced her faith in Christ and became a devoted member of Pleasant View AME Zion Church. Later, she found solace and spiritual guidance at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. Her faith was an integral part of her life, providing her with strength and comfort throughout her journey.
To say that Christine had a vibrant personality would be an understatement. Her infectious smile and caring nature made her a beacon of light in the lives of those around her. She possessed the unique ability to speak her mind with honesty and love, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
Christine's love for her family knew no bounds. She dedicated herself to ensuring the well-being of her children and grandchildren, often going above and beyond to care for them. Many of her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were raised under her loving guidance. Her selflessness and unwavering support will forever be remembered by those she touched.
In her free time, Christine found joy in various hobbies. She was an avid ceramist, gardener, and painter, expressing her creativity through these outlets. Gospel music, wrestling, and soap operas were among her favorite pastimes. Additionally, Christine had a talent for cooking and would often prepare large meals to share with loved ones near and far.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Lila Caldwell and James Johnson, as well as her daughter Loria Ann Caldwell; life partner, Grant Blakeney, Jr.; Sisters: Mary Louise Woods, Mary Louise Johnson Boyd, Sarah Jane Woodard, Bernice Taylor, Rosie Lee Chisholm and Loretta Degraffenreid; brother James Allen Caldwell.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her surviving children: Brenda Cherry (Melvin) of Chester, Tracey Evans (Andrew) of Harrisburg, NC, and Sandra Blakeney and her partner, Mike Sanders, of Chester. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ashley Caldwell, Anderson RaShaad Hooper, Brittney Attilus, and Christian Feaster. Christine's legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Jaylen Jackson, Justyne Jackson, Brooke Shabazz, Pasquale Adamo, Blakeney Attilus, and Christian Feaster, Jr.; sisters: Betty Jean Strong (Melvin), Chester SC, Margaret Buchanan, Chester SC, Geneva Hodges, Aberdeen, NC, Fannie Curbeam (Odell), Blackstock SC, and Mary Gaston (Zeddie), Fort Lawn SC; brothers: Freddie Caldwell, Rock Hill SC, Tommy L. Woodard (Christine), Rock Hill SC, James H Johnson (Minister Elizabeth), Chester SC and Johnnie Woodard, Chester SC; Special nieces and nephews: David Leon Woods (Nicole), Scottie Woods and Wendy Woods; Honorary sons and daughters: Eyvonne Hooper, Priscilla Grafton, Barbara Johnson, Patricia Woods, Milton and Lashaun Sims and Subrenia Isom; Lifelong friend: Ella Bertha Gregory.
