Annie Bell Smith, affectionately known as “Bay”, passed away on December 17, 2021 at White Oak Manor in York, SC. She was born in Fairfield County on February 6, 1943 to the Earl Smith and Irene Lightner Smith.
Annie Bell accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Indian Hill AME Zion Church. She attended until her health declined.
She spent the majority of her life helping to raise and caring for her nieces and nephews. Although she had a limited education, she was an avid reader and was known for helping the neighborhood kids with their homework.
She loved reading the Bible, Word Find and Crossword Puzzles books, Oldies but Goodies songs, playing board games, and watching wrestling.
She had a great sense of humor and her laughter was one of a kind. She will be missed dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Burdia Mae Merritt, 2 nieces, Janice and Elaine Merritt, and 2 nephews, Eric and Darnell Merritt.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories to her sister, Nancy Gilmore of York SC, 2 brothers, Earl Smith Jr of Charlotte NC and James L Smith of Fort Mill SC; nieces, Phyllis Bouler (Donald) of Columbia SC, Stephanie Conklin of Atlanta GA, Shedelia Blair (Willie) of Charlotte NC, and Sharon Gilmore of Fort Mill SC; nephews, Exzell Smith and Eugene Merritt, both of New York NY, and Kenneth Merritt of York PA; 8 grandnieces, 6 grandnephews, 5 great-grand nieces, and 5 great-grand nephews; a host of cousins and friends.
