Chester, SC- Mrs. Sallie Bell McClurkin Simmons of 115 McClure Street in Chester, South Carolina went home to be with the Lord on November 10, 2013 at her home surrounding by her family. Funeral service will be 1:30 Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Long, Officiating, and Reverend Jesse Boulware and Reverend Eugene Canty, assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Sallie was born January 3, 1926 the daughter of the late James "Jim" McClurkin and the late Bessie Curbeam McClurkin in Fairfield County, South Carolina. She was a memeber of Antioch Baptist Church were she served as the president of the Usher Board, and was a member of the Hymn Choir and A.P. & B Society. Sallie was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lawrence L.A. Simmons. She was preceded in death by five of her children James, Frank, Sr., Donald, Pauline and John Robert McClurkin. She leaves to cherish fond memories three sons: Roosevelt (Brenda) McClurkin, Ronald (Florence) McClurkin, James (Drucillia) Boyd, all of Chester, South Carolina; seven daughters, Shirley (Isaac) Wilkes, Rosa (George) Caldwell, Bessie Simmons, Deloris Simmons and Shelia (Fred) Minter, all of Chester, South Carolina, Faye Bowser (Allen) Rouse, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and Azalee Young, Baltimore, Maryland; one brother, Pearl (Ethel Lee) McClurkin, Chester, South Carolina; two sisters, Rosa Mae Mack, and Viola Gladden, both of Chester, South Carolina; daughter-in-law Daisy C. McClurkin, Chester, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Annie McClurkin, Chester, South Carolina, Carrie Lou McClurkin, Winnsboro, South Carolnia; devoted grandchildren Frank McClurkin, Jr., Toyal McClurkin, and Robin McClurkin, all of Chester, South Carolina, Lorie Young, Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren that were raised in the home Tia Simmons, and Dantrell Simmons, 32 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren; caregiver Nora McClinton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends at the home 115 McClure Street Chester, South Carolina. Viewing will be 4:00 - 7:00 at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 and at 12:30 the church on Thursday, November 14, 2013.
