Obituary

With deep love and hope in Jehovah's promises, we announce that our dear sister, Remattie Titus Buchanan Walker, of 754 Old York Road, Chester, SC, fell asleep in death at home on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Sister Walker was a woman of faith who found joy in sharing the good news of God's Kingdom and in showing kindness to all who knew her. Her warmth, hospitality, and steadfast trust in Jehovah touched many lives, and she will be dearly missed until the time when "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out" (John 5:28, 29).

Sister Remattie Titus Buchanan Walker was born on November 2, 1931, in Chester, South Carolina, to Elmira Welch and Thomas Titus. She was their only child. After the passing of her mother at a young age, she was lovingly raised by her grandfather  William Bud Welch, along with her aunt and uncle, and later by Remattie and Sam Saunders.

Remattie lived a full life of love, service, and faith. She worked as a nurse at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, where she retired after 30 years of dedicated service. Always hardworking and determined, she was also an entrepreneur, fondly known throughout the community as "The Avon Lady." She operated her own business for many years and was admired for her perseverance and independence.

She was known for her many acts of kindness, her delicious cooking, and her beautiful, well-kept yard that she took great pride in maintaining herself. Her home, lovingly called "The Big House," was more than just a place to live it was a haven, filled with warmth, laughter, and love for all who entered.

Remattie was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Chester, South Carolina. She loved Jehovah deeply and shared her faith with others, holding firmly to the promise of the resurrection.

She was the proud mother of eight children, two of whom, Richard Buchanan and Clarence Buchanan, preceded her in death. She also opened her heart and home to Twelve other children whom she raised as her own, along with many of her grandchildren.

She leaves behind a rich legacy of love through her children: Ronald Titus, Steve Buchanan (Karen), Hilliard Buchanan (Jurinda), Oscar Buchanan (Beverly), Linda Rahming (Malcolm), Iretha Buchanan and Gretta B. Minton, raised as a daughter in the home. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

During her later years, she was tenderly cared for by her devoted caregivers: Iretha, Linda, Johnnie, Jessie and Angela Otis. Their love and dedication brought her comfort and dignity.

Sister Walker will be remembered most for her love of family, her generous heart, and her unwavering faith in Jehovah. She trusted in the promise of the resurrection and looked forward to the day when she would awaken in a world free of sickness, sorrow, and death. Until then, her family and friends take comfort in knowing she is safe in Jehovah's memory.

"Those who belong to God will live again." – John 5:28, 29

The Walker family kindly asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they lean on Jehovah, "the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4).
