Johnny "Bunny" Franklin, 71, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025. He was born on July 10, 1953, in Chester County, South Carolina, to Sumter Franklin Sr., and Annie Mae Franklin.
Johnny was the youngest of three brothers and was cherished as the baby of the family. To many of his friends and family, he was affectionately known as "Bunny," a nickname that reflected his loving and approachable nature.
Johnny joined Lincolnville Baptist Church at an early age, where his faith and community played an important role in his life. He was a 1971 graduate of Chester High School in Chester, SC. In his early career, Johnny worked as a mechanic at BF Goodrich. Later, he transitioned into the world of technology, beginning his career as a computer programmer at IBM. He went on to work for Wells Fargo, where he continued as a computer programmer until his retirement.
Johnny was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sumter Franklin Sr. and Annie Mae Franklin, and his brother William Franklin Sr. His legacy of love is survived by his brother Sumter M. Franklin (Ella); his devoted nephews Brad Franklin, William Franklin, Brian Franklin, Edwin Franklin, and Marcus Franklin; his devoted niece Michelle Franklin; and one special friend, Angela Bryant.
Johnny is also survived by a host of great nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. Johnny loved the outdoors, and hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, always making them feel welcome and loved. Johnny was an avid sports fan, and his favorite NFL team was the Pittsburgh Steelers. He always had a smile on his face and brought so much joy to those who met him. His warmth, laughter, and easygoing nature will be missed by all who knew him.
