IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James “Jimmy”
Darnell Shockley
August 19, 1963
Mr. James Darnell "Jimmy" Shockley, of 1614 Begonia Way, Rock Hill, South Carolina, and a proud native of Camden, New Jersey, entered eternal rest knowing he was loved by his family.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Jimmy's love for athletics began on the neighborhood courts of Camden, where his talent quickly set him apart. A graduate of Pennsauken Technical High School, he led the entire state of New Jersey in high school basketball scoring in 1982, averaging an incredible 32 points per game. He went on to play basketball all four years at Johnson C. Smith University, where he continued to excel and inspire.
Jimmy's athleticism knew no limits, he was passionate not only about basketball but also golf, tennis, baseball, and even ping pong. His competitive drive was matched only by his generous spirit.
Beyond the court, Jimmy devoted his life to helping others. He was currently employed as the Lead Direct Care Counselor at Anderson Behavioral Health Services in Marshville, North Carolina, where he poured his heart into mentoring and guiding youth. Over the years, he coached hundreds of young athletes and worked with countless individuals in group homes and foster care programs, always offering wisdom, encouragement, and love.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James George Peco and Ethel Brown, and his cherished son, Jeffrey Pratt.
Jimmy leaves behind his children: Jermaine Pratt (Tierra), Jasmine Johnson (David), Julian Shockley (Michelle), and Ali Shockley (Nadia); seven adored grandchildren; and his siblings Eloise, Maggie, Ernest, Eugene, Carol, William, Rosemary, Gary, and James.
His children were the center of his world his pride, his purpose, and his joy. To them, and to all who knew him, he was a coach, counselor, brother, and friend. His calming spirit, infectious smile, and timeless wisdom touched every life he encountered.
Inspired by the likes of Dr. J, Muhammad Ali, and Walt Frazier, Jimmy embodied their strength, grace, and charisma both on and off the court. He taught that true greatness is not measured by trophies or titles, but by how we uplift others.
Though he is gone from our sight, his spirit, lessons, and love will forever live in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he impacted.
"Don't brag about my accomplishments," Jimmy would say. "Just help others and fulfill your purpose."
