IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Coronica Pernetta
(Douglas) Williams
May 8, 1969 – October 12, 2024
On October 12, 2024, Coronica Pernetta Douglas Williams ascended to heaven, singing her final praises. As God called her home, she left this world on a high note, her voice carrying her to eternal peace.
Coronica was not just a woman of titles or accolades; she was a force of inspiration, driven by her belief in the power of education, faith, and community. Born on May 8, 1969, in Chester, South Carolina, Coronica was a natural leader from the beginning, embodying grace, determination, and brilliance in every sphere she touched.
From her earliest days, she was a standout, whether as a cheerleader, a class representative, or a member of the prestigious Governor's Honors Choir. She embraced life with an infectious energy, winning pageants and representing both the high school classes of 1986 and 1987 with pride, having graduated early yet, always claiming both classes as her own.
Her journey continued at South Carolina State University, where she became a proud member of the university's marching band, performing as both a colorguard and a champagne dancer for the renowned Marching 101. She brought vibrancy and rhythm to the stage, traveling the country with the university's Jazz Ensemble and mastering the art of performance with the Henderson Davis Theater Group.
However, Coronica's life was about more than the spotlight; it was about passion, knowledge, and transformation. She pursued a bachelor's degree in Marketing, but it was her work at Parkwood Middle School that uncovered her love for education. This discovery ignited her pursuit of not just one, but two master's degrees—first in Business Administration and later in Human Resources. Throughout her career, Coronica made profound impacts at every school she touched. She began at Greenbriar Middle School, Chesapeake,VA. Later, she moved to Lemoore, CA, where she taught at Sundale Elementary School, and then continued her work at Heritage High School in Newport News, VA. Coronica also shaped the futures of students at Great Falls High School and York Preparatory Academy. She spent time in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School District, including teaching roles at Quail Hollow Elementary School, Wilson STEM Academy, and Providence High School. This year, in a full-circle moment, she returned to Chester Senior High Career Center in her hometown of Chester, SC, where her teaching journey first began.
Coronica's journey through life was marked by a return to her roots this year, coming full circle as she once again taught in Chester, South Carolina, bringing her wisdom and experience back to where it all began.
However, Coronica's legacy extended far beyond the classroom. She was also an integral part in her church and community, devoting herself to ministry in ways that transformed lives. She served as Choir Director for both the Youth and Mass Choirs, enriched the lives of children through Vacation Bible School, and led powerful performances through the church's Performing Arts and Drama Ministry. Her heart for service wasn't limited to the church walls—she was an integral part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, a lifelong member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and a committed singer with the Christopher King Choir, Chester County Mass Choir, and The Walker Family.
Through every role, every stage, and every classroom, Coronica lived with passion, purpose, and unwavering faith. She built legacies, not just for herself but for all those she guided and mentored. Her story, one of dedication and perseverance, serves as a blueprint for what it means to live boldly, coupled with integrity, and humility; moreover, and she never stopped serving others.
In 2024, Coronica graduated from the York-Chester Teaching & Learning Bible Academy. She was also pursuing a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in Biblical Studies, continuing her spiritual and academic journey with unwavering dedication.
